When I was a kid, pizza meant going out to a restaurant, having a pie delivered to the table, and burning the roof of my mouth on the molten cheese.
These days, the ubiquity of pizza delivery has brought about an entire generation of children who have never burnt the roofs of their mouths on pizza.
In my curmudgeonly way, I see that as a sort of loss.

When I was a kid, pizza meant delivery – why would you go to a restaurant? The only ones we had available to eat-in were Pizza Hut, LaRosa’s and Godfather’s. Eating in was expensive compared to Domino’s, Little Ceasar’s or Papa John’s. My favorite delivery pizza was Papa Johns – and in Chicago, most of the pizza I ate was delivery, though from better sources.
And the best part – left overs of cold pizza!
